The Philadelphia Flyers are in a good spot when they need to extend Porter Martone and Matvei Michkov

The Sheet with Jeff Marek: Kevin Kurz, on the Philadelphia Flyers needing to extend Porter Martone and Matvei Michkov in the next year. It will be costly, but Flyers GM Danny Brier has given them some flexibility to move out salary if need be.

Marek: “Did the Leo Carlson offer sheet just make Porter Martone very rich?”

Kurz: “Yeah, I mean he’s, you know, he’s already the odds-on favorite to win the Calder Trophy next year.”

Marek: “Yeah.”

Kurz: “You would think that’s something that the Briere is going to want to get ahead of. If Matvei Michkov comes back and has a great third year after taking a step backwards last season. You know he’s a guy they’re going to have to extend next season.

NHL Rumors: Offer Sheets, Anaheim Ducks, and the Pittsburgh Penguins

So you do wonder if that’s going to be a problem. You know, but that’s going to be a problem for a lot of general managers, right? You can go right down the list of players that you would think are going to get locked up now, or general managers are going to try to lock them up early.

But, you know that’s I think another part of what Briere has done is when you look at the players that he signed. So many of the of of the long term contracts he does have wiggle room to move these guys, right? Owen Tippett signed long-term, but he’s only got a 10-team no-trade list. Christian Dvorak‘s contract is five years, but it’s only a full no-move clause for the first two. Really, (Travis) Konecny’s the only one who’s, who’s locked up long term. I think another, I think it’s another four or five years he has a full no-move clause.

But just about everybody on this roster, Briere’s left himself some flexibility to move players out if he has to.”
