1:22 PM:
- Darren Dreger of TSN: The Maple Leafs now have at least 5 offers on the table for Tomas Kaberle. Offers range from players to draft picks. One team that is familiar with the discussions is saying the Leafs are wanting a 1st round pick included, the Leafs are saying it’s not a priority.
9:12 AM:
- Rob Longley of the Toronto Sun: Tomas Kaberle can’t be moved until Friday, but things are starting to heat up. Burke continues to say he’s not shopping Kaberle but will listen to offers, especially if they involve a top 6 forward and another player with toughness. A deal doesn’t necessarily have to involve draft picks (but I’m sure he wouldn’t object to them).
- Damien Cox of the Toronto Star: Burke expects things to heat up even more when he gets to LA for the Draft. So far there have been about 12 inquiries for Kaberle, with 4 of them being ‘concrete offers’. The Maple Leafs have an offer that would get them back in to the 1st round (bottom 1/3) but their looking for other assets. Teams that could be interested in Kaberle are: Anaheim, Boston, Tampa Bay, and Washington. Cox doesn’t think the Kaberle-Savard doesn’t make much sense for the Leafs, a David Krejci deal would be better.
- Pierre LeBrun via Twitter: LeBrun talked to Burke and no truth to Toronto-Boston trade rumors.
- Rob Hornby of the Toronto Sun: Burke has admitted he might gamble his way back in to the 1st round. “I’ve turned down a late first-round pick for a player on my team already,” Burke said, though he was vague whether it was Kaberle or Luke Schenn..” The Leafs were also doing ‘tire kicking’ on Nathan Horton and with the Blackhawks before the trades in the past couple days. Burke hasn’t had any ‘meaningful discussions’ with Bob Murray for any Leaf or Duck (referencing the Kaberle for Ryan rumor that has been out there). Luke Schenn is getting some interest … “I have no intention of trading certain players; I also tell them if someone offers me 10 first-round picks, you’re on a plane. But I was asked an hour ago if I’d trade Luke and I said no.”
- Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun: The Anaheim Ducks may have an interest in trading for Tomas Kaberle, especially since Scott Niedermayer retired. The Ducks have 2 1st round picks this year, #12 and #29.
- Darren Dreger of TSN: More talk on how the Bruins-Leafs may re-open Kaberle talks, with Savard’s name mentioned. It may not fit Burke wish of a scoring Winger though.
- EJ Hradek of ESPN: Hradek points out a potential Kaberle trade that could make sense for both teams (I’m sure I read this potential deal elsewhere a month or so ago somewhere, Dallas Morning News I think), Kaberle to Dallas for Mike Ribeiro. Riberio is a $5 million cap hit for the next 3 years. Ribeiro is coming off back to back 56 assist seasons, and might look good beside Phil Kessel.
