Trade: Blackhawks Send Kris Versteeg To Hurricanes

The Chicago Blackhawks have traded Kris Versteeg, Joakim Nordstrom and a 2017 third round pick to the Carolina Hurricanes for Dennis Robertson, Jake Massie and a 2017 fifth round pick.

The 29-year old Versteeg was drafted 134th overall in the fifth round of the 2004 draft by the Bruins. He carries a $2.2 million cap hit and will be a UFA at the end of the season.

The 23-year old Nordstrom was drafted 90th overall in the third round of the draft 2010 by the Blackhawks.

The 24-year old Robertson was drafted 173rd overall in the sixth round of the 2011 draft by the Maple Leafs.

The 18-year old Massie was drafted 156th overall in the sixth round of the 2015 draft by the Hurricanes.

“Kris is a skilled forward who has won a pair of Cups with the Blackhawks and can provide veteran leadership in our room,” said Francis. “Joakim is a solid, 200-foot player who can kill penalties. This gives us more options up front for this season, while also now giving us 10 picks in the first three rounds over the next two drafts.”
