The Chicago Blackhawks have traded forward Ben Smith and a 2017 7th round pick to the San Jose Sharks for forward Andrew Desjardins. The Sharks are retaining some salary.
The 26-year old Smith was drafted 169th of the 6th round of the 2008 draft by the Blackhawks. He carries a $1.5 million cap hit for one more year.
The 28-year old Desjardins was undrafted. He’s a pending UFA carrying a $750,000 cap hit.
