Trade: Maple Leafs Send Ashton and Broll to the Lightning

The Toronto Maple Leafs have traded forwards Carter Ashton and David Broll to the Tampa Bay Lightning for a conditional 7th round pick in 2016.

Erik Erlendsson: The condition on the pick is if Ashton plays 15 games with the Lightning next year, the Leafs get the 7th round pick.

Bob McKenzie: The Maple Leafs don’t have any other trades imminent, just clearing contracts. Broll had another year left on his entry-level contract and wasn’t considered a prospect.

The Maple Leafs were at the maximum 50 contracts, and the move opens up two spaces for future moves.

The 23-year old Ashton was drafted 29th overall in the 1st round of the 2009 draft by the Lightning.

The 22-year old Broll was drafted 152nd overall in the 6th round of the 2011 draft by the Maple Leafs.
