“There were reports earlier to Monday about Evan Gold being the new GM. All I was told about that was, it’s premature. And I’m not going to knock anybody else’s reporting. People hear things all the time, but I was specifically told not to say that as any kind of done deal. It’s premature.
A Trade That Would Help the Oilers, and the Avs Will Have Cap Issues
So the last I heard, it was down to two: Evan Gold and Ryan Johnson, who is currently there, and I believe that there had been conversations with both of them about potentially taking the job. But at this point in time, I was just told the reports about Evan Gold being the guy are premature. (inaudible). I would prefer not to be wrong again, so I’m just going to stick with that.”
The Swedish system of NHL leadership
NHL Media: Elliotte Friedman yesterday on Henrik and Daniel Sedin taking on a bigger role with the Vancouver Canucks.
“Well, I do believe the Sedin’s are taking a bigger role there. The best comparable that was given to me guys is it’s probably going to end up similar as Toronto has ended up with John Chayka as the GM and Mats Sundin as a, as a vice president of an advisor, or an advisor.
Like, Chayka ultimately has the decision-making power, but Sundin’s opinion will matter 100% and I think it’s going to end up being something like that. I think, I think this, I like the Sedins taking on a bigger role. They care a lot about the Canucks. I think it’s a great move.”
Vancouver Canucks GM Search Slowly Coming to an End
…
But it’s going to be similar to Toronto’s setup, and since there’s Swedes involved in both sides. I’m calling it the new Swedish system of NHL leadership. A franchise legend in an advisory role from Sweden and a general manager.”
