Vegas Has a Long-Term Plan for Who Will Coach This Team Moving Forward

Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet joined Scott Laughlin and Gord Stellick on Sirius XM NHL Network Radio Morning Skate and was asked about what the Vegas Golden Knights plan to do at their head coaching position moving forward, and if John Tortorella is part of the plan.

Scott Laughlin: “Yeah, just to wrap up, and you talk about playoffs, and what it means as well, Friedge, you think about John Tortorella, right? He signed on in the short term. We don’t know whether that was the long-term option. Is it a case where he has to go and win around in the playoffs, and then they’ll talk about the future going forward, because if they get to the postseason and get knocked out in the first round, are we just looking at a short stay for him in Vegas? Do you think?”

Will Steve Yzerman Change the Detroit Red Wings Roster This Summer?

Elliotte Friedman: “I think the Golden Knights have a plan. Now, what that plan is, I don’t know, but I think they have a plan. I think they have an idea of what they’re going to do. And ultimately, like the only thing that has made me pause a bit is that he’s done really well, right? And, like, I heard that when Tortorella took over, they told him, “Don’t worry about the future.” Get in and see what you can do right now, and we’ll worry about it later.

Okay, it’s just like it was just about this year, and he’s done a great job, and they have a chance. They control their own destiny to win the Pacific Division. They get a point tonight, and they win (The Golden Knights won the Pacific). So I think he’s done that in the short term, and it gave me pause that maybe he is going to be the long-term guy here, but I’m under the impression they have a plan, and whatever it is, they plan to execute it in the offseason.”
