The Vancouver Canucks could look at bringing in someone on a PTO to potentially flip at the deadline
Sekeres and Price: Patrick Johnston talking about the Vancouver Canucks, who might be in the market to add another NHL player this offseason, possibly on a PTO. If they add someone else, there could be the hope they have a good season and are flipped for assets at the trade deadline.
“(Canucks GM Ryan Johnson) was very clear, you know, the opportunities are there for the young guys, right? And, and you know, (Jonathan) Lekkerimäki is a guy who he thinks, you know, he’s scored at every other level, right? Now is the time to do it in the NHL, and he wants to see him get the biggest opportunity he can. You know, obviously, having a coach that knows him well will make a difference.
So, yeah, I mean, I think, I think more than anything, there’s likely someone comes in on a PTO. That was certainly something that Ryan did concede. I didn’t really put it in the story, but certainly he’s looking at some of these veterans.
I don’t know if any of those guys in particular stand out, but I sat back, and I looked the list, and I sort of go, okay, if we’re looking for NHL players and all those guys in theory, as I noted, would be guys that you would think would make sense, especially if they’re kicking around looking for a job. You sign them on, you hope they have a good year, and then you can flip them at the deadline because that’s what this team should be doing. And certainly I think Johnson has been showing himself to think in those terms.
So you know, listen, I didn’t put any of those names directly to him, but he knew what I was talking about when I, I said there are a list of some interesting veterans. And he didn’t say no, I’m not interested in any you know anyone like that.
So, yeah, I think there’s still a move to be had, but I think they also are in no rush. He also was clear; he’s in no rush to do it. He wants to see what his, you know, as he said, he is comfortable with the battles that are in front of them right now, and he wants to see how those things shake out. But I also think no, he’s not ruling out the idea of adding someone else.”
