It wouldn’t be a surprise if Dylan Larkin is still a Red Wing in September
NHL Watcher: Chris Johnston on Detroit Red Wings Dylan Larkin adding the Dallas Stars to his list of teams he’d waive his no-trade clause for:
“It might take more than that quite honestly…it would not surprise me if you and I take a little break for the summer here and we fire up the podcast first week of September, and Dylan Larkin is still a member of the Detroit Red Wings.
The Red Wings are just not in a position where they’re going to trade him to get rid of the headache or get rid of the storyline, the distraction, if you want to go that far.”
NHL Rumors: Detroit Red Wings, Philadelphia Flyers, and the Top Remaining UFAs
Hits on the New York Islanders
Stefen Rosner and David Kolb of The Eel Monsters: (mailbag) New York Islanders defenseman Matthew Schaefer is extension eligible after July 1st, 2027. Don’t expect a bridge deal, and could see a long-term contract between $12 and $14 million.
The Islanders have several UFAs coming off the books next year. Alexander Romanov‘s no-trade kicks in July 1st, 2027, so they’ll need to make a decision on him before that. His value isn’t high at the moment after a down year. Jean-Gabriel Pageau could become a trade candidate. Depending on where they sit at the trade deadline next year, it could determine how many players get moved out.
Ondrej Palat would draw some interest. There likely wouldn’t be much of a market for Casey Cizikas, but some playoff teams might have interest despite the $2.5 million cap hit. Defensemen Ryan Pulock and Scott Mayfield’s no-trade clauses become modified ones next offseason.
Wonder about acquiring Alex Killorn and a pick from the Anaheim Ducks. Maybe sending Anthony Duclair to Anaheim.
The Philadelphia Flyers’ Have the Flexibility for Two Big Extensions
Two sources said the Islanders talked to Patrick Kane on July 1st.
The Islanders are likely finished for the offseason unless they do a one-year, bonus-laden deal for someone like Kane or Patrik Laine.
