Rumors II: Nash, Hamilton, Lehner, Oilers, Reilly and Julien

  • Platium Seat Ghosts: Bob McKenzie on Rich Nash on TSN Radio.

“Well the New York Rangers haven’t really done anything specific yet. They’re licking their wounds from losing to the Tampa Bay Lightning in the conference final. But they’ve got a very challenging offseason here where they’ve got Derek Stepan and Carl Hagelin, both restricted free agents, both looking for significant raises and its really going to cap challenge the New York Rangers. I’m just throwing it out there that I would not be surprised if they at least had to consider the notion of ‘What would Rick Nash fetch in a trade?’. He’s got a 7.9 million dollar cap hit. He’s got 3 years left on his deal. Those are never easy trades to make and for the same reason that the Rangers might want to get cap space, you’re also potentially giving up a 42-goal scorer. Having said that, I think that’s something that as they go through the pros and cons and the various machinations to see how they’re going to handle the Stepan and Hagelin stuff, as well as some others, that that notion of trading Rick Nash is at least one that will come up for discussion.”

  • TSN Insider Trading: Pierre LeBrun: Both Bruce Boudreau and Claude Julien are expected to return behind the bench of the Ducks and Bruins next year.Darren Dreger: The Bruins will have to start contract talks with pending RFA defenseman Dougie Hamilton soon. Hamilton could get an offer sheet from someone. He could be looking for a deal similar to Drew Doughty and Alex Pietrangelo.Bob McKenzie: The Rangers could look at trading Rick Nash this offseason. He currently has a full no-trade clause, but it becomes a modified no-trade clause on July 1st. The Rangers are a cap team and they have to re-sign Derek Stepan and Carl Hagelin.

Pierre LeBrun: The Senators are saying they have offers on the table for Robin Lehner. The Oilers and Sharks could be interested. The Oilers could also be interested in John Gibson and Cam Talbot.

Bob McKenzie: Eight teams are interested in Mike Reilly: Blackhawks, Blue Jackets, Red Wings, Oilers, Kings, Wild Rangers and the Penguins. The list could also expand.

  • Kevin Paul Dupont of the Boston Globe: Two sources saying that Claude Julien will be back with the Bruins next season. Though there have been rumors that some other coaches may not return, that may not be the case.
