  • Tim Campbell of the Winnipeg Free Press: After signing Mathieu Perreault for three years, looking like Olli Jokinen’s days in Winnipeg are over. The Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff are hoping to add a top-six forward.

“We’d like to get another top-six forward,” he said. “That’s something we’re still looking at. Again, are there some options out there? Potentially.”

Some teams may be looking to move some players after free agency settles.

“Part of the deep-breath period here that happens after this, I think, all of a sudden some teams might be getting some calls from their CFOs upstairs saying ‘Hey, wait a minute, we like your July 1, but now we’ve got to take a look at where things are at.’

“There’s lots of different things that you still have to factor into your budget or the cap as it comes along here. I expect there are going to be some phone calls. After the free agent period, everyone still wants to fine-tune their team.”

  • Randy Miller of NJ.com: Flyers GM Ron Hextall on the free agent frenzy yesterday.

“There’s two days of the year where hockey people get crazy, July 1 and the trade deadline,” Hextall said. “We’ve got to keep things intact that day if you can, but it’s not easy.”

“I wouldn’t have liked to bring a little bit of insanity,” Hextall said. “Not too much.”

The Panthers were believed to have some interest in Vincent Lecavalier, but that may have changed with their signing of Dave Bolland.

“I’m sure (Lecavalier’s situation) changed a little bit because all of a sudden players are in place,” Hextall said. “It also might flush things out. Maybe a team or two that thinks it didn’t have a need will.

“But there’s nothing imminent on Vinny. We’ll keep looking at the situation and deal with it internally. As far as I’m concerned right now, Vinny Lecavalier could be in a Flyer uniform in September.”

  • James Mirtle: Was talk that the Maple Leafs were interested in Brian Boyle. He went to the Lightning for family reasons.
