- Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun: Things will now turn to Chris Stewart and Erik Cole with Vermette out of the way.The Flames are having talks with the Blackhawk, Bruins, Blues and Capitals about Curtis Glencross to see what their interest level is.
“Everybody is kind of chasing the same guys around,” said a league executive Saturday. “They jump from player to player and the teams with those players are playing them off against each other.”
At least four teams are pushing for Glencross, with about six or seven that wouldn’t mind having him.
Teams are calling Blue Jackets GM Jarmo Kekalainen about RFA Cam Atkinson. He’s been listening to offers and asking for the teams top prospect, so Atkinson may not be going anywhere.
Teams are calling the Bruins about Ryan Spooner, but it’s unlikely that they will deal him.
Belief is that the Red Wings are making a hard push for Keith Yandle.
The Capitals were pushing for Patrick Sharp. He’s likely an offseason deal, but the Blackhawks are listening. Sharp would be the type of player the Senators would be interested in.
Senators Eric Gryba, Patrick Wiercioch and Chris Phillips are getting interest. It’s possible that two of the three get traded.
The Stars have received seven or eight calls on Erik Cole. Among the teams are the Blues, Blackhawks, Bruins and Sharks. The Stars have been patient with the flooded forward market. On league executive: “Cole might be the best pure rental available and he’s got a good track record in the playoffs.”
The Blues wouldn’t mind trading for a depth forward. There is pressure on the Blues to get past the first round. Patrik Berglund’s name is out there, but some don’t like the two years left on his deal at a $3.7 million cap hit.
- Pierre LeBrun: Coyotes GM Don Maloney said that the Preds-Leafs and the Kings-Hurricanes trades set the asking prices to a first round pick and prospect.
- Pierre LeBrun: GM Maloney said that there were two other offers for Vermette that were comparable and close.
- Joe Haggerty: The Bruins were in on Antoine Vermette, but wouldn’t the first round pick.
