Tyson Barrie – Defenseman
2015 – 16 Cap Hit: $2,600,000
Age: 24
Drafted: 64th overall in 2009
One of the NHL’s top offensive defensemen, Barrie has scored 10 or more goals each of the last three seasons and will be looking to make in excess of $5 Million per season coming off a two-year, $5.2 Million bridge deal.
Colorado extended former #1 overall pick Erik Johnson and signed free agent veteran Francois Beauchemin last season. Barrie’s name was frequently mentioned in trade rumors during the year. The budget conscious Avs have to lock up 2013 top pick Nathan McKinnon, which may make GM Joe Sakic deal the BC native for younger or more controllable assets.
