On the Vancouver Canucks …
- John Shannon: The Canucks will put Chris Higgins on waivers today. If he’s not claimed, he’ll report to Utica of the AHL.
- TSN Radio Vancouver: Canucks President Trevor Linden said there hasn’t been much interest in Chris Higgins and that he’s going on waivers.
- Thomas Drance: Think that Higgins would be tradeable if he didn’t have another year left on his contract.
- Thomas Drance: Higgins’ contract is buyout friendly. If he’s bought out this offseason, he’d have a $833.333 cap hit for the next two years. (Numbers from War-on-Ice)
- General Fanager: Higgins would have a $1.55 million cap hit if he clears waivers and is sent to the AHL. If traded to another team, he’d carry a prorated $1.196 million cap hit this year, and then $2.5 million next year.
On Steven Stamkos …
- Platium Seat Ghosts: Darren Dreger on if there is any info from the Steven Stamkos situation: “No, crickets.”
On Kevin Shattenkirk, St. Louis Blues and the Tampa Bay Lightning …
- Chris Nichols of Today’s Slapshot: Bob McKenzie on TSN 1260 on Kevin Shattenkirk and if they need to trade him to improve their offense.
“Well, I think Doug Armstrong is looking at a lot of different things. There’s no question the Blues are in on Jonathan Drouin, but Shattenkirk may not be part and parcel of that. But Shattenkirk may be an expendable piece of the puzzle because they have so much depth on the blueline. They’ve got to maintain a budget and balance things out a little bit there. The emergence of Parayko and Edmundson playing some big minutes probably gives them the luxury of being able to move a guy like Shattenkirk.
“His name is most certainly out there. It wouldn’t surprise anybody if at some point he’s traded. But that doesn’t mean it necessarily is connected to the Drouin trade, if St. Louis is one of the teams that will be in on Drouin.”
