- Rich Chere of the Star-Ledger: The Devils are still looking to add one or two free agents and to extend Cory Schneider.
“Not yet,” Lamoriello said, “but I feel very comfortable that this is something we’ll get done in the very near future. We’ve had ongoing conversations.”
They are looking at possibilities of free agent signings or a trade.
“It’s a possibility,” he said. ““We certainly would like to do one or two more things. Nothing has happened, but we are looking into a couple of things.”
Ryane Clowe is doing “extremely well” as he recovers from his second concussion he suffered last season.
- Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch: The Blue Jackets have held exploratory talks with Sergei Bobrovsky and Brandon Dubinsky. The Blue Jackets would like to extend them this summer and prevent them from getting to free agency next year. GM Jarmo Kekalainen’s main priority is to sign RFA Ryan Johansen. Assistant GM Bill Zito has been handling talks while Kekalainen has been tending to other business. For their AHL team in Springfield, they will go with the goaltending duo of Anton Forsberg and Oscar Dansk.
- James Mirtle of the Globe and Mail: The Maple Leafs have qualified James Reimer, but he’s likely to turn it down. They could head to arbitration where he’d likely be awarded over $2 million. The best case scenario for Reimer may be that another team has an injured or struggling goalie in October or November. The Jets may be only current team that could use a goalie.
- Dave Molinari of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: Though it is possible they could make another minor free agent signing or two, and a trade can’t be ruled out, but Penguins GM Jim Rutherford will be turning his attention to his six RFAs. Qualifying offers have been sent to Brandon Sutter, Nick Spaling, Jayson Megna, Bobby Farnham, Simon Despres and Philip Samuelsson. Sutter will likely be the most difficult to re-sign.
