- Mike Vogel: Nicklas Backstrom might be able to play tonight. John Carlson didn’t travel with the team to Carolina. He’s listed as day-to-day.
- Chuck Gormley of CSN Mid Atlantic: Center Jay Beagle will be out for “an extended period of time” with an upper body. Coach Barry Trotz said he’ll require surgery. Trotz said that Marcus Johansson, Andre Burakovsky or Brooks Laich could be moved to center while Beagle is out.
- Michael Latta will be back in the lineup after missing a game with an arm injury.
- John Carlson will miss “a few games” with a lower-body injury.

- Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News: The Stars put Ales Hemsky on the IR retroactive to December 29th with a lower-body injury.

- Joe Smith of the Tampa Bay Times: Jonathan Drouin returned to the lineup after missing that past eight games with a lower-body injury. Ondrej Palat is close to returning to the lineup.

- Minnesota Wild: Zach Parise and Darcy Kuemper are out tonight.
On the Winnipeg Jets …
- Paul Friesen of the Winnipeg Sun: Mark Scheifele practiced yesterday with the team for the first time since suffering a concussion after a collision with Andrew Ladd at practice on boxing day. He could return at some point during their five-game road trip.
“He will have to get through a number of skates and then enough of a full-contact practice that in our minds simulates game activity,” head coach Paul Maurice said. “And then he has to come off that and feel right and not have any symptoms at all. When that time comes, then he’ll play.”

- Tom Gulitti: Jacob Josefson had x-rays on Tuesday night and they came back negative. They are not sure if it’s just a bruise. Will take a few days.
- Rich Chere: The Devils Josefson was put on the IR with a lower-body injury and they recalled Mike Sislo.
