On the Ottawa Senators …
Bruce Garrioch: Senators GM Pierre Dorion said he’s “very” active on trying to find a depth winger. Added that he’s not sure if he’s close to a deal.
On the San Jose Sharks …
Kevin Kurz: Forward Matt Nieto doesn’t appear to fit with the Sharks anymore. The Sharks should consider doing his career a favor and trade him if they aren’t going to play him.
On the St. Louis Blues …
Jeremy Rutherford of the St. Louis Post Dispatch: (chat) It may have been more ideal to trade Kevin Shattenkirk by now. If they do make him available, there will be plenty of interest. GM Doug Armstrong needs to make the best deal possible if he decides to move him. Holding off trading him does give them some extra time to see what they need.
Don’t think the Blues need to trade for a big forward.
Though you can’t rule anything out, don’t think the Blue would want to bring T.J. Oshie back this offseason when he comes a free agent.
On the Calgary Flames …
Chris Nichols FanRag Sports: Pierre LeBrun on TSN 1040 yesterday morning talking about the Calgary Flames.
“I talked to a GM yesterday who said, ‘Everyone is so focused on Dougie – believe me, Brad Treliving has talked (about) other players with other teams here in the last few weeks.’
“So we’re all sort of pent up and hooked up one guy when the reality is when the Flames were a bit of a dumpster fire three weeks ago, I think that there were all kinds of explorations happening. At the end of the day, it’s not about one player. And now, in the meantime, the Flames have sort of turned the corner here and are playing a much steadier brand of game, which has probably quieted things down.”
