On the Boston Bruins and Ryan Spooner …
Shawn Hutcheon of The Fourth Period: Sources have told TFP that Bruins forward Ryan Spooner expects to be traded this season. There have been rumors for a while that that the Bruins are willing to move Spooner for a either a goal-scoring forward or a veteran defenseman. Nothing appears to be imminent. Two teams that could be interested in Spooner are the Colorado Avalanche and New York Islanders – both have scouted the Bruins in recent weeks.
On the St. Louis Blues and Kevin Shattenkirk …
Chris Nichols of FanRag Sports: Darren Dreger was on NBCSN during the St. Louis Blues and Philadelphia Flyers game and was asked about Kevin Shattenkirk’s future with the Blues with the NHL trade deadline approaching. Dreger notes on how much of a big piece he is to the Blues, and how coach Ken Hitchcock has high praises for his game.
“The problem is, like so many cap teams, the Blues just aren’t going to have space for him unless Doug Armstrong is able to do something magical. So it makes sense that St. Louis holds on to Shattenkirk as an ‘own rental.’ That’s the term where you hold onto a pending unrestricted free agent player through the trade deadline. Obviously you use him into the playoffs as deep as you can get, and then you have to let him go as an unrestricted free agent.”
Shattenkirk will get seven years on the open market, eight if he re-signs with the Blues, and will carry a cap hit around $7 million.
