On the Chicago Blackhawks …
Scott Powers of The Athletic: Source saying the Blackhawks are looking for a forward, as well as a defenseman.
“They’re looking for a forward and veteran defenseman,” the source said. “They need help back there.”
There haven’t been a lot of defensemen in the rumor mill yet. A source said that Michael Stone of the Arizona Coyotes could be one defenseman available.
On Kevin Shattenkrik, New York Rangers, Montreal Canadiens Edmonton Oilers and Toronto Maple Leafs …
Chris Nichols of FanRag Sports: Elliotte Friedman on 630 CHED on St. Louis Blues and defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk. Friedman notes that with already having Alex Pietrangelo and Colton Parayko on the right side, they can live without Shattenkirk. Shattenkirk and the Blues coaching staff may also not always be on the same page.
“What I don’t know is what’s the price. If they’re still determined on asking for a big price, they’re not going to get it for a guy who has got a couple of months left before he becomes a UFA.
“And there is a belief out there, rightly or wrongly, that he wants to be a Ranger. So we’ll see. We’ll see what happens there. We’ll see where it goes. But if they’re going to ask for a premium, I don’t think they’re going to be able to get much. But if they’re going to ask for something a bit more short term, or the price isn’t as high – because maybe they want to move him to get something else. I could see it happening.
“The other thing I could see happening is what if they did something with Tampa where they sent Shattenkirk to Tampa and Bishop goes to St. Louis. I mean, that’s something that helps both teams. I don’t know. I’m just throwing it out there.”
Shattenkirk could also be a rental for a team like the Edmonon Oilers, Montreal Canadiens or Toronto Maple Leafs – depending on price. Friedman doesn’t think Shattenkirk would be interested in the Oilers or Maple Leafs long-term, but possibly in short-term.
