On the Florida Panthers …
George Richards: The Panthers and Jaromir Jagr are still talking about a contract. They are still discussing money.
George Richards: The Panthers want to bring Jagr back next year but for a bit of pay cut from last year’s money. assumes Jagr is also seeing what else is out there.
Harvey Fialkov: Panthers GM Dale Tallon said the reports out of Montreal that he was told to cut salaries are not true.
Harvey Fialkov: GM Tallon said that they are targeting forwards in free agency and not defensemen.
On the Colorado Avalanche and New York Islanders …
Adrian Dater: Hearing that the Travis Hamonic and a first round pick for Matt Duchene rumors were not true.
Adrian Dater: Have also heard that rumors of Duchene’s agent being upset are overblown. He hasn’t been available for comment.
On the Colorado Avalanche …
Adrian Dater: If Nikita Zadorov thinks that the Avalanche are going to over pay him because of the threat of him leaving for the KHL, he is wildly mistaken.
Aivis Kalnins: Zadorov could return to the KHL if he can’t reach a deal with the Avalanche.
Chris Nichols of FanRag Sports: Bob McKenzie was on TSN 1050 talking about the Colorado Avalanche and the Matt Duchene situation. It’s likely going to start becoming uncomfortable soon. The Avs are trying to trade him for a younger asset, but they don’t want to call it another rebuild.
“For a guy like Matt Duchene, who has been in the league as long as he has been, I’m sure he wants to win. So he hasn’t formally asked for a trade, but I think like everybody else he’s probably expecting one, and maybe even hoping for one at this point.
“And I understand where Joe and the Avs are coming from, but I mean a lot of the teams I talk to say, ‘We’ve made offers and the Avalanche are overvaluing this asset given that he’s two years away from unrestricted free agency.’ “
