On the New York Rangers, Toronto Maple Leafs and Montreal Canadiens …
Larry Brooks of the NY Post: New York Rangers defenseman Ryan McDonagh has two years left on his current deal and will be eligible to sign an extension next summer. He’ll be 30 years old when his next contract would start. Will he want to re-sign with the Rangers or wait and see if there is interest from the Wild to return to his home in Minnesota? It would take at least $7.5 million for eight years.
The Rangers quickly dropped out on Patrick Marleau after hearing the term and money that he was looking for. He signed with the Toronto Maple Leafs for three years at $6.25 million per.
If adding Marleau means the Maple Leafs have to take offers on Tyler Bozak, the Rangers should be interested. The Rangers could offer up defenseman Nick Holden as part of the deal, who is on a one-year deal at $4.2 million.
If the Maple Leafs were get in on the John Tavares sweepstakes next year, Bozak would definitely have to go. James van Riemsdyk and Leo Komarov would also likley need to go. William Nylander will be a RFA after next next season.
Alexander Radulov had already given his word to the Dallas Stars on a five-year, $31.25 million offer when the Montreal Canadiens matched it.
