On the New York Islanders and Lou Lamoriello …
Chris Nichols of FRS Sports: Darren Dreger was on WGR 550 and said they continue to hear that talks between the New York Islanders and Lou Lamoriello continue.
“So I’m not staking my reputation on the speculation that Lou Lamoriello is going to join the New York Islanders. It sounds like there’s discussion between ownership and Lou Lamoriello, but the problem is we’re not able to identify what is the specific job title that they’re talking about.
“It doesn’t sound like Garth Snow is in a position where he’s about to lose his job as general manager, so is Lou going to be okay being the overseer, the president of hockey operations or whatever.”
Elliotte Friedman was on 630 CHED and was asked about Lamoriello.
“You know Lou Lamoriello,” began the Insider. “Nobody is getting any information until he’s ready to reveal it. But I do believe they’re talking and I think it’s a possibility. I think there’s a legitimate chance it’s going to happen, but I can’t say with any certainty.”
Friedman isn’t sure if the Islanders were able to bring Lamoriello in if it would change anything with regards to John Tavares, but it would at least give them a fresh approach.
Andrew Gross of Newsday: John Shannon reported on Friday that the Islanders have spoken with Lamoriello. It’s well known that Lamoriello’s preference is to be a GM.
Garth Snow has been the Islanders GM since 2006, and they’ve only made the playoffs four times since then.
Lou’s son Chris has been an Islanders assistant GM since August 2016.
