Two Lightning goaltenders heading to waivers if not trade first

Erik Erlendsson: The initial plan for the Tampa Bay Lightning is to put goaltenders Louis Domingue and Mike Condon on waivers on September 21st.

Another team did call the Lightning yesterday morning about one them, so they could possibly move someone beforehand.

Holtby and Ovechkin on their futures

Isabelle Khurshudyan: Goaltender Braden Holtby when asked if he’d take less money to remain with the Washington Capitals beyond this season: “There’s always that area where you can work with, but at the same time you have a responsibility to the other players in the league, too.”

Isabelle Khurshydyan: Capitals GM Bryan MacLellan said they are “going to play this out.” MacLellan added that he’s already spoken with Holtby’s agent and will talk with Nicklas Backstrom’s agent soon.

Isabelle Khurshudyan: Alex Ovechkin has two years left on his contract and there has been some talk about his future after that. Ovechkin yesterday: “Of course I would love to stay in Washington, but before, we’ll see what’s going to happen. I don’t want to play for a different team than Washington.”

Ristolainen not saying much

Lance Lysowski: Rasmus Ristolainen wouldn’t really comment when asked if he had asked the Buffalo Sabres for a trade this offseason – only saying that his conversation with GM Jason Botterill would stay between the two of them.

What the numbers may suggest for Laine

Murat Ates of The Athletic: Winnipeg Jets RFA Patrik Laine continues to train back in Finland.

When comparing his some of his stats to other players in the league, a long-term deal in the $8.4 million range may fit. The RFA market would likely make that number bigger though.

Both the Jets and Laine could be happy with a bridge deal. The numbers suggest he could be valued around $5.3 million on a bridge deal – possibly the floor number for him. expects a two-year deal at over $6 million per, maybe approaching $7 million.

The Jets shouldn’t trade Laine, and he likely won’t be giving them a hometown discount.
