Quick hits on the Pittsburgh Penguins, St. Louis Blues, and Detroit Red Wings
Dan Rosen of NHL.com: (mailbag) After their hot start Pittsburgh Penguins are coming back down towards expectations. The future Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and Kris Letang will come up again later in the season. Can’t see them being traded unless they want to go, and hard to see Malkin not re-signing, unless he wants to go.
Everything looks off in St. Louis. If the Blues show some life to close out 2025, they could look to do some retooling. If they want to change things up, forward Brayden Schenn ($6.5 million cap hit) and defenseman Justin Faulk ($6.5 million cap hit) could be moved. Forward Jordan Kyrou at $8.125 million through 2030-31 could also be an option (he has trade protection).
It may come to John Gibson on waivers to get Sebastian Cossa to the NHL. Gibson hasn’t been that good so far in Detroit. Sometimes it is not easy for goalies to adjust to a new team. They aren’t giving up on him yet.

Would Tristan Jarry be worth it for the Edmonton Oilers, and who could be interested in Kiefer Sherwood
Dan Rosen of NHL.com: (mailbag) If the Edmonton Oilers don’t see Stuart Skinner as their solution in net, moving the pending UFA by the trade deadline makes sense. They obviously would need to bring in someone else. Tristan Jarry has a history of injuries, and a salary cap basically doubles that of Skinner’s. Jarry’s at $5.375 million through 2027-28. The Oilers only trade for him if they feel he can win them the cup.
The Columbus Blue Jackets may have a bigger need on the blue line, but they should be one of the teams interested in Kiefer Sherwood. The 30-year-old pending is from Columbus. He plays in the top nine, hits, scores, and kills penalties.
Sherwood would also make sense for the New York Islanders, Philadelphia Flyers, and Pittsburgh Penguins.
