The Philadelphia Flyers are trying to quiet the noise around Owen Tippett

Sportsnet: Elliotte Friedman on 32 Thoughts: The Podcast – Canada Can’t Refuse Connor Bedard episode, on teams checking in on Owen Tippett, and it’s not the Philadelphia Flyers doing.

** NHLRumors.com transcription

“Owen Tippett has been a name around a lot. And I kind of looked into this one a little bit, and I think the Flyers are trying to do everything they can to calm the noise around him. I think it’s bothered him a little bit. I think he’s definitely heard it.

You know, I think the Flyers are trying to say, ‘Look, like this is not our doing. And, I do think the Canucks asked about him. I don’t think that’s going to be happening. But I’ve heard that the Flyers believe that there’s another level they can get Tippet to.

And also too, for like, his contract, you take a look at where contracts are going, you’re going to be okay with that contract. And I think the Flyers see that too.

NHL Rumors: Devils, Canucks, Oilers, and the Penguins

I think they’re trying to calm down the noise, simply because this is not created by them. Sometimes names are out there because teams are looking to move guys. This is not the case with Tippet. So we’ll see where that goes.

Flashbacks to Patrick Roy after Jordan Binnington was pulled last week

SDPN: Chris Johnston and Julien McKenzie on St. Louis Blues goaltender Jordan Binnington, and the flashbacks to Patrick Roy in Montreal.

McKenzie: “The other night, Jordan Binnington getting polled, and he had a very animated discussion with his head coach, Jim Montgomery. Making the connection because it’s goaltending and because we’re at the anniversary of Patrick Roy getting pulled in that Detroit Red Wings game, before he goes over to the team president and says he’s played his last game for the Canadiens.

I’m not saying Jordan Binnington did the same thing, but it has been a roller coaster season for Jordan Binnington.”

Johnston: “Well, I did have a text from someone that night saying that, did Jordan Binnington just pull a Patrick Roy? So, I mean, you’re not the only person who saw that and thought that.

NHL Rumors: Will the Edmonton Oilers Make a Goalie Move This Season?

I get why. Emotional, fiery guy, much like Patrick Roy but totally different circumstances, right? The reason that people are making the parallels are this, I mean, Jordan Binnington’s name is at least a little in the rumor mill.

I think it’s more just the fact that it’s not going well in St Louis. There’s not a ton of goaltenders out there available for trade. He’s one year after this one away from being a UFA.

That, being said, nothing broke in that moment. The St Louis Blues know and love Jordan Binnington. They know what he’s all about. They love that fire in him. But I do think it does spotlight what’s going to go on here.”
