Players with term could have increased value on the trade market

Sportsnet: Elliotte Friedman and Kyle Bukauskas on 32 Thoughts: The Buzz is back in Buffalo episode, on how players with term left on their contracts could start to become more important on the trade market.

** NHLRumors.com transcription

Friedman: “I believe that term is going to be something teams are going to be paying for in trades. With the cap going up and free agency or new contracts going to be higher and higher. If you can acquire a player with some term, teams will pay more of a premium for that. And that…”

Bukauskas: “Cost certainty is going along.”

Friedman: “Cost certainty is very real. That will become more expensive.”

NHL Rumors: Ottawa Senators, and the Montreal Canadiens

It may be time for the Montreal Canadiens to take some gambles this offseason

The Chris Johnston Show: Johnston and Julian McKenzie on the Decent Deadline or Disappointment episode, on the Montreal Canadiens not making any big moves at the deadline. They had

McKenzie: “Can we throw the Montreal Canadians in that pile of teams to look out for, considering the fact that Kent Hughes says that, ‘hey, they were trying to make a significant move that could help the team, maybe it’s something they revisit in the next couple of months.’ I wonder what they were working on.”

Johnston: “Yeah, and they’ve got lots of prospects, too. And you know, the Canadians are at that tricky part. I can understand why they didn’t do anything too crazy at this deadline. But, you know, going from good to great is the hard part, right?

And they’ve, they’ve managed their turnaround really well. They’ve rebuilt what you, whatever you want to call it, but you know, taking that next step is going to probably mean some gambles and some luck or whatever, what have you.

NHL Rumors: Montreal Canadiens, and the Toronto Maple Leafs

I mean, the team isn’t missing a lot. You know, they believe Jacob Fowler is their future net, but it’s, they could have maybe traded for goalie. I know they were hunting around for some forwards this deadline. I don’t think they ever got too serious on (Robert) Thomas and (Nazem) Kadri, but they talked with those players.”
