Doug Armstrong may be the ideal candidate for the Toronto Maple Leafs, but ….
Sportsnet 590 The FAN: Frank Seravalli last week when asked if Doug Armstrong is the ideal candidate to turn the Toronto Maple Leafs around, and would he actually be available?

Alish Forfar: “You mentioned Doug Armstrong. Like, is he the, is he the ideal candidate in your perspective of who could turn this team around? Has the proven history of doing said, type of turning around, and how available is he?
Seravalli: “Well, there’s a lot to unpack there. I’ll say that the availability part remains to be determined. But it’s my belief that the work that he’s done in St Louis over the last decade and a half, that he’s put this team in a place to succeed, and he has found the successor that he’s coached and guided to taking over the team on July 1st.
The Nashville Predators GM Search, and Kade O’Rourke Looking for Exceptional Status
The whispers behind the scenes are that if an opportunity came up that appealed to Doug Armstrong, that St. Louis Blues ownership, led by Tom Stillman, is not going to stand in the way of him wanting to depart and go chase that based on the service that he’s provided to this point.
That’s not set in stone, and that also presumes that Doug Armstrong would want to take on a challenge like this. I think as you’re if you’re looking for the first head of the two-headed monster, I’d be hard-pressed to find a better fit than Doug Armstrong. And again, I’m not saying that this is a fait accompli, but he checks all the boxes.
And I think one of the biggest things that the Toronto Maple Leafs need, and it was sorely lacking at times in Brad Treliving’s tenure. Brad Treliving is involved in everything but the hemming and hauling that comes with some of the decision-making process. Doug Armstrong knows how to put a stake in the ground, and he knows what he wants and how to go chase it.
And he’s also pretty convincing too in his thought process of how he worked himself to that point. So everything has reason, everything seems to come together, and there’s a plan. Now, it doesn’t always mean that what you’re trying to execute works, but more often than not, he’s been pretty successful in doing that.
The Latest on the Toronto Maple Leafs and Their Front Office
So I think he’d be a great guy to start with in terms of the resume, track record and experience. Also to be able to handle a market like this. He’s just gone through being Team Canada’s GM at the Olympics. He knows what it’s like to be in the fire, and he also knows what it’s like to build a winner. And I think those things matter.
