I think it’s a little surprising that free agent winger Alex Tanguay is still out there. He’s coming off a season where he only played in 50 games, but he did record 41 points. In 9 seasons, he’s recorded 580 points in 659 games, scoring 193 goals. Sportscity.com has Tanguay ranked #9 on their Top 25 Free
Agent list. He made over $5 million last year, and I’d bet he’s looking for something similar, which is probably why he’s still on the market.
The Sun Sentinel out of Florida is reporting that the Panthers are one of 6 teams that are interested in signing Tanguay. Other teams that apparently are interested are the Coyotes, Oilers, Islanders, Senators and Stars. I’d be surprised if he signs with the Panthers, Coyotes or Islanders, unless they are offering a lot more money or a longer term with a good salary. The Coyotes and Islanders are around (or below) the league minimum cap number, so they might over-pay to just to get over the floor.
