The Montreal Canadiens have traded forward Zack Kassian to the Edmonton Oilers for goalie Ben Scrivens.
Kassian was drafted 13th overall in the first round of the 2009 draft by the Sabres. He carries a $1.75 million cap hit.
Scrivens was not drafted. The Maple Leafs signed him out of Cornell University. He carries a $2.3 million cap hit.
Pierre LeBrun: The Oilers will be retaining 24 percent of Scrivens salary.
General Fanager: 24 percent equates to $552,000 in retained salary.
Hockey’s Cap: Projected cap space: Canadiens $1.876 million, Oilers $2.1 million.
Renaud Lavoie: Scrivens will dress tonight, but it’s not known if he’ll play. The Canadiens send Dustin Tokarski to the AHL.
Ryan Rishaug: Kassian will report to Bakersfield of the AHL.
Conor McKenna: “Best scenario for Habs: Scrivens becomes this year’s Dubnyk for as long as Price out of commission. Worst: he remains Ben Scrivens.”
