Honorable Mention: Mikkel Boedker – Colorado Avalanche
Mikkel Boedker

After some failed contract negotiations before the trade deadline, the Arizona Coyotes sent Mikkel Boedker to the Colorado Avalanche. Boedker had been trying to get a five-year contract worth around $5.5 million a season. The Coyotes may have been willing to go around $5 million, but not for five years.

Boedker had shown flashes with the Coyotes, and in his brief stint with the Avalanche (12 points in 18 games).  This year was second 50 point season. He was on pace last season for over 50 points, but injuries limited him to 45 games.

Analytics don’t favor Boedker that well. He hasn’t had a CF% over 50 since 2010-11, bottoming out this past season at 45.6. Only 24 of Boedker’s 51 points came at 5v5.

On Boedker’s side is that he is only 26-years old despite being in the NHL for eight years. Can’t see him getting near the $5 million that the Coyotes were offering, but someone will see value in him.
