Injuries: Bishop, Crosby, Pens, Wings, Canucks, Jets and more
  • Bryan Burns: Lightning’s Ben Bishop left last night’s game with a lower-body injury. The injury happened late in the first period, coach Jon Cooper didn’t know exactly when it happened. Cooper on Bishop and if he can play against the Flyers: “We play in less than 24 hrs. He pulled himself out tonight. It’d be hard to go in less than 24 hrs.” The Lightning may not decide on a potential call-up until this morning.
  • Kevin Kurz of the CSN Bay Area: Sharks Matt Nieto suffered a setback from his ankle injury. He’s missed the past five games and had been skating with the team.

“I guess you could call it a setback a little bit,” Todd McLellan said. “I don’t think he ever got over the hump, so he’s stuck right there right now.”

“He won’t play Thursday, I know that. We’ll see where he is for Saturday (vs. St. Louis) and Monday (at Anaheim). It could take him through the Christmas break. We want him back but we’ve got to do it right.”

  • Josh Yohe: Penguins Sidney Crosby is longer contagious. Beau Bennett has mumps symptoms. Dave Molinari:  Bennett is being quarantined.
  • Pittsburgh Penguins: GM Jim Rutherford: “Sidney is past the infectious stage as of yesterday… As far as I know, he will return tomorrow or the next day.”
  • Katie Strang: Children who met with Beau Bennett at the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh that haven’t received the age-appropriate mumps vaccine will be put into isolation and monitored for mumps symptoms.
  • Jason Mackey: The Penguins put Zach Sill (upper-body) on the IR.
  • Bill Roose: The Red Wings will start offering mumps vaccinations today.
  • Matthew Sekeres: Canucks Dan Hamhuis will return to the lineup by January 15th. He might be able to go by January 1st, but may need a little more time.
  • Mike Heika: Stars defenseman Alex Goligoski missed practice yesterday. He’s been dealing with a lower-body injury, and saving himself for their games.
  • Paul Friesen: Jets Jacob Trouba is day-to-day and is “probable” for tonight.
  • Jameson Olive: Panthers Shawn Thornton won’t play tonight due to a groin injury. Coach Gerard Gallant on Aleksander Barkov and Scottie Upshall: “They’re both cleared to play, and after the morning skate we’ll make some decisions about who’s in the lineup”
  • Ansar Khan: Red Wings coach Mike Babcock is preparing as if Justin Abdelkader and Danny DeKeyser will play tonight. Stephen Weiss is not ready.
  • Rob Mixer: Blue Jackets Fedor Tyutin could return tonight. If he can’t go tonight, he should be ready for Thursday.Kevin Oklobzija: Sabres Torrey Mitchell is out with a lower-body injury and they’ve recalled Mikhail Grigorenko.
