- News 1130 Sports: Canucks Kevin Bieksa is out indefinitely with a broken hand that will require surgery.
- Shawn Mitchell: Blue Jackets GM Jarmo Kekalainen said that Artem Anisimov (tricep) and Ryan Murray (knee) could be cleared to play next week. Murray would give them nine healthy defenseman, so something will have to give.
- Dave Molinari: Penguins Evgeni Malkin was a late scratch after leaving warmups early. John Shannon: Source saying Malkin will not play in the All-Star game.
- Eric Stephens: Ducks Eric Brewer (broken foot) is skating and taking part in practices.
- Patrick Williams: Jets have activated Jacob Trouba off the IR and put Mathieu Perreault on the IR.
- Sam Carchidi: Flyers GM Ron Hextall said they will have more info on Kimmo Timonen in a day to two: “There’s a lot of gray area with this whole thing.” Randy Miller: Hextall still thinks that Timonen doesn’t want to play beyond this year. Dave Isaac: Hextall on Timonen: “In the end, it’s gonna be the doctor’s call, but we want to be comfortable with the doctor’s assessment.”
- Sam Carchidi: Flyers GM Ron Hextall said that Scott Laughton is still day-to-day.
- Bruce Garrioch: Sounding like Todd Bertuzzi’s PTO with the Senators AHL is over due to a knee issue.
- Kristen Odland: Ducks Clayton Stoner was a late scratch with a lower-body injury.
- Scott Powers of ESPN: Blackhawks Kris Versteeg was originally to be out for four weeks with a metacarpal fracture in his left hand when he was hit by a puck at the Winter Classic. He had surgery on Jan. 6th. He still has his cast on and hasn’t started skating yet.
“Maybe it was going to be a little bit longer than that, but we said around four ,” Quenneville said prior to Wednesday’s game against the Pittsburgh Penguins. “We’ll see. It’ll probably be a little bit longer than that.”
- Tracey Myers: Versteeg is still a ways away, but he could travel with them on their next trip and skate with the team at some point.
