Injuries: Methot, Devils, Giroux, Martinez, Jackets, Panthers and MGL/CHIP
  • Ken Warren of the Ottawa Citizen: Senators defenseman Marc Methot is getting closer to returning to the lineup and is day-to-day according to assistant GM Pierre Dorion. Methot could be sent to Binghamton of the AHL on a conditioning assignment.
  • Darren Dreger: Sounding like Jets Mark Scheifele could take the morning skate today. If he doesn’t, he’ll only be day-to-day.
  • Rich Chere: Devils Jon Merrill won’t play night. Adam Henrique is likely to play.
  • Philadelphia Flyers: Claude Giroux didn’t attend a season ticket holder event last night as he was being evaluated by team doctors. GM Ron Hextall later said that he is fine.
  • ESPN Chicago: The Blackhawks put Trevor van Riemsdyk on the LTIR.
  • Jon Rosen of LA Kings Insider: Kings defenseman Alec Martinez is expected to miss a week with an injured pinky finger after blocking a shot last Thursday.

“You know what? Everything went well,” Sutter said. “It was basically a finger – they had to do some suturing on his finger and clean up his nail a bit. When it heals, then he’ll be ready.”

  • Brian McCormack of BlueJackets.com: Blue Jackets Ryan Johansen missed practice yesterday and is questionable for today. Coach Todd Richards said he was “banged up.” Matt Calvert and Jack Skille practiced yesterday and their status is still unknown for tonight.

“With any injury you want to take the pain level away and then obviously fix the weakness,” said Calvert. “That’s something we’ve been trying to work on for the last week. I’m kind of taking it day-by-day still, but it would be nice to be back in the lineup soon.”

Brandon Dubinsky didn’t practice and is  “day-to-day, week-to-week” according to Richards.

  • George Richards: Panthers Sean Bergenheim and Brandon Pirri skated yesterday. David Bolland was doing off-ice workouts. Harvey Fialkov: Dmitri Kulikov is also practicing.
