  • Dallas Morning News: Stars Valeri Nichushkin has skated the past two days and could return to practice today.

“If things go well, maybe he can participate in part of our practice, maybe in a non-contact sense or even just the shooting part,” Ruff said.

Defenseman Sergei Gonchar skated on Monday and will likely do so again today. He hasn’t played a game this season due to his ankle injury.

  • Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch: Optimism is fading with regards to Nathan Horton playing this year. He was diagnosed in the summer of 2013 with a “degeneration” in his lower back. Surgery will be a last resort, and there is no guarantee of relief.

“He’s going to rest it and see if it responds,” general manager Jarmo Kekalainen said.

Horton has been dealing with back issues for years.

“He’s in constant pain,” Krepelka said.

  • Bryan Burns: Lightning coach Jon Cooper said that Ryan Callahan’s lower-body injury could be a week-to-week injury.
  • Jonathan Davis: Kings Jake Muzzin could play on Thursday against the Sabres.
  • David Pollak: Sharks are saying that Raffi Torres won’t have a second surgery for his ACL injury. There is no timetable for his return.
