- Robert Tychkowski of the Edmonton Sun: The Oilers will be without right winger Jordan Eberle for four to six weeks with a shoulder injury. Eberle could miss as many as 16 games.
“It wasn’t anything big, just kind of a small hit,” he said. “I was trying to keep the play alive, reaching for the puck and kind of just folded my shoulder over.
“I knew something was wrong and got back to the bench. I was definitely in a lot of discomfort and pain.”
Surgery isn’t required at this time.
- Tim Panaccio of CSN Philly: Flyers goalie Michal Neuvirth had been icing his knee all week, and may have re-aggravated it last night in the second period – he was pulled for precautionary reasons. GM Ron Hextall said they think he’ll be fine for the start of the season next Thursday. The Flyers still have Jason LaBarbera in camp and he doesn’t have to clear waivers to be sent down. The Flyers are at 25 players in camp, so they’ll have to cut at least one more skater.
- Rich Chere of the NJ.com: Devils Kyle Palmieri suffered an injury in the second period of last night’s game. Head coach John Hynes isn’t worried.
“As of now, no. But we have to figure out more after we talk to the trainers,” Hynes said.
“He’s just got a little minor tweak right now. We didn’t want him to finish the game, just rest up,” Hynes explained.
- Chuck Gormley: Capitals coach Barry Trotz didn’t rule Brooks Orpik (wrist) out of their last preseason game on Sunday.
- Chuck Gormley: Trotz said there is no timetable for Nicklas Backstrom’s return and they won’t risk it rushing him back.
- Eric Stephens: Ducks Korbinian Holzer hasn’t been seen on the ice since he suffered a head injury from a Frazer McLaren hit.
- Dhrien Mahiban: Pavel Datsyuk’s agent said Datsyuk is expected to start skating in two to four weeks and will return to the lineup in five to six weeks.
