- Josh Yohe of Pittsburgh Tribune-Review: Evgeni Malkin will join the Penguins for part of their road trip to New Jersey, Dallas and Arizona. GM Jim Rutherford said at the GM meetings that Malkin would be out for a week or two. According to head coach Mike Johnston “Geno is day-to-day.” Winger Patric Hornqvist appeared to injury his back or side against the Wings.
“By not going on the trip, we know he’s out at least a week,” Johnston said. “They (the team’s training staff) feel like that’s roughly about the timeline (for the recovery).”
Hornqvist had missed six weeks earlier this season with an injury.
“It’s not going to be nearly that long,” Johnston said. “Hopefully it won’t be very long after this weekend that we get him back.”
