On the Penguins …

  • Seth Rorabaugh of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: Defenseman Olli Maatta will be out three to four weeks. It was initially thought that he might have did some damage to his internal organs, but that doesn’t appear to be the case. The team did not say what the injury was, but it is thought to involve soft issues and/or muscles. He was released from hospital yesterday afternoon.

On the Devils …

  • Tom Gulitti of The Record: There is still no timetable for Patrik Elias’s return. He is with the team on their road trip.

“I don’t think so. I don’t know,” he said. “I don’t think it would be smart. First of all, the guys are playing well and, second of all, it’s totally different. I haven’t skated with the team in seven months, so I’ve got to get used to that. I’ve got to get used to that movement, (players) moving around me and stuff and if I don’t feel comfortable, it’s a matter of getting hurt out there. The game is quick.”

On the Flyers …

  • Tim Panaccio of CSN Philly: Goalie Michal Neurvirth said he’s ready to go tonight. He missed Tuesday’s game after taking a shot up high in practice. He said he’s also been dealing with nagging lower-body and head issues this season.
  • GM Ron Hextall said that Evgeny Medvedev is fine.

“He’s been practicing good,” Hextall said. “I watched him again today. He looks good, he’s healthy and he’s an option for us and has been for the last two games.”

  • Mark Streit had successful surgery on Tuesday and will be out six weeks.
  • Sam Carchidi: GM Ron Hextall said that R.J. Umberger is still not ready to return to the lineup.

On the Lightning …

  • Joe Smith: Coach Jon Cooper said that Tyler Johnson and Cedric Paquette are both out tonight. Jonathan Drouin and Ryan Callahan are “most likely” out tonight.
  • Tampa Bay Lightning: Ryan Callahan is day-to-day with a lower-body injury.

On the Sabres …

  • Joe Yerdon: Coach Dan Bylsma said that Zegmus Girgensons won’t go on their road trip and he wouldn’t confirm in Evander Kane will be in the lineup tonight. He is happy with his progress and skating.
  • John Vogl: Girgensons will miss at least the next two games.

On the Wild …

  • Chad Graff: Both Zach Parise and Justin Fontaine were skating, with coach Mike Yeo calling it an “encouraging” sign.

On the Bruins …

  • DJ Bean: Kevan Miller missed practice yesterday. David Pastrnak is still out and is not close to returning.

On the Canucks …

  • Iain MacIntyre: Radim Vrbata is day-to-day with a lower-body injury. Luca Sbisa’s injury is related to his fight.
  • Vancouver Canucks: Sbisa left the game in the 2nd period and didn’t return.

On the Blackhawks …

  • Chris Hine: Teuvo Teravainen is day-to-day. Coach Joel Quenneville said the injury isn’t serious.

On the Capitals …

  • Chuck Gormley: Brooks Orpik missed last night’s game, but he could play tonight.

On the Avalanche …

  • Mike Chambers: Semyon Varlamov practiced yesterday. John Mitchell skated before practice.

On the Blue Jackets …

  • Aaron Portzline: Jared Boll (foot) was put on the IR.
