Injuries: Rangers, Oilers, Leafs, Kings, Wings, Stars, Jackets and Lightning
  • Danny Knobler of ESPN: Rangers defenseman Ryan McDonagh separated his left shoulder last night after a hit from Jets Evander Kane. It is the same shoulder that was separate at the end of the regular season last year, causing him to miss the final five regular games. The Rangers also lost Kevin Klein last night with a foot contusion. They were without John Moore last night as he was serving the first of his five game suspension. McDonagh and Klein will have MRIs today.
  • Rob Tychkowski: Oilers coach Dallas Eakins on Taylor Hall: “No update on Taylor so don’t bother asking.” (Hall left after crashing hard into the post and boards)
  • CP on SportsNet: Maple Leafs Joffrey Lupul will be out three weeks with a broken bone in his hand. He’ll be in a cast for at least 10 days.
  • Katie Strang: Kings Anze Kopitar is planning on playing today against the Hurricanes.
  • Jon Rosen: Kings Marian Gaborik said he’s close to returning to the lineup, but not sure if it will be today.
  • Ansar Khan: Red Wings coach Mike Babcock confirms that Johan Franzen will be in the lineup today. Kyle Quincey won’t play but is traveling with the team. Brian Lashoff is in. Quincey (ankle) is day-to-day according to Ken Holland.
  • Mike Heika: Stars defenseman Sergei Gonchar has been cleared by doctors but needs his conditioning to improve. He could be back next week.
  • Shawn Mitchell: Blue Jackets Matt Calvert (upper-body) hasn’t had a set back, just not ready to return as it’s “not progressing the way he wanted it to.” All of Calvert, Corey Tropp (illness) and Boone Jenner (broken hand) could return the this week. Artem Anisimov (head) is “still back home, still getting evaluated,” Richards said.
  • Nick Williams: Lightning defenseman Andrej Sustr missed last night’s game with a hand injury.
  • Dan Rosen: Rangers center Derek Stepan practiced with a non-contact jersey yesterday. He is not able to come off the LTIR until Monday, but might be a little longer. Head coach Alain Vigneault on Stepan“I would say it might be stretching it, but I wouldn’t count it out.”
