  • Steve Zipay of Newsday: Rangers Martin St. Louis skated for the first time yesterday since spraining his MCL on March 15th.

“My next step is to see how I feel later today, take it a day at a time,” said St. Louis, 39, who skated on his own at one end of the rink before joining Chris Kreider and two coaches taking shots at Henrik Lundqvist at Canadian Tire Center on Thursday morning.

“I was on the ice probably an hour ,” he said. “I’m not pushing it extra hard. We’ll see how I respond. I’m encouraged how I felt, thought it was a good step.”

  • Scott Powers of ESPN Chicago: Blackhawks Joakim Nordstrom will be out at least a week with an upper-body injury. Daniel Carcillo is day-to-day with an upper-body injury.
  • Andy Strickland: Blues Kevin Shattenkirk said he was cleared on Monday. He said his injury is 100 percent healed and that he’s still building strength.
  • Jason Mackey: Penguins Christian Ehrhoff is day-to-day with an upper-body injury.
  • Shawn Mitchell: Blue Jackets Alex Wennberg and Matt Calvert won’t travel with the team this weekend. Calvert hopes that he’ll be able to return to practice next week.
  • Shawn Mitchell: Blue Jackets Brandon Dubinsky (upper-body) practiced with the team yesterday.
  • Chuck Gormley: Capitals Jay Beagle (upper-body) and John Erskine (neck) skated yesterday morning.
