  • Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun: Senators Chris Phillips cracked a vertebra while rehabbing and will require at least another month of rehab. GM Bryan Murray released a statement yesterday.

“Chris has experienced a setback in his recovery from back surgery that will delay his return to the ice. While the back surgery earlier this summer has alleviated all of the issues he experienced last season, he suffered a cracked vertebra during his rehabilitation,” said Murray.

“Chris will require about a month of additional rehab before he’s able to begin training to get back on the ice with the team and will not be a participant in training camp.

“We do expect him to fully recover and be a big contributor the team’s success this season.”

  • Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News: Stars Brett Ritchie will be out three to four months after having surgery to repair a ligament in his wrist.

“Brett’s surgery went very well and he’ll work hard to get back on the ice,” said Nill. “We expect Brett to make a full recovery as he should return to the ice in three to four months.”

  • Mark Stepneski: Stars 2015 1st round pick Denis Gurianov is out two to three weeks with a shoulder injury. He’s been playing in the KHL.
  • Arthur Staple: Islanders Mikhail Grabovski took it easy this offseason after he suffered two concussions last year. “Maybe I have to be more aware on the ice. It’s not a lot of space out there anymore, so I need to change my game a little. You get older, you get smarter, right?”
  • Chip Alexander: Hurricanes 2015 1st round draft pick Noah Hanifin won’t play in the prospect tournament in Traverse City as he’s out with an injury and has been replaced by Tyler Ganly. He’ll be attending the Hurricanes training camp.
