On the New Jersey Devils …
- Tom Gulitti of The Record: Devils GM Ray Shero has said that he won’t give up future assets for rental players. The Devils currently hold the second wild-card spot. They could use some scoring, and there is no doubt that Shero would like to acquire a young forward that would fit into their long-term plans. Adding that type of piece isn’t easy to accomplish at the trade deadline. If the Devils were out of the playoff race, they could look at moving some expiring contracts, including Lee Stempniak and David Schlemko.
On the Edmonton Oilers …
- Lowetide: Oilers who could be available at the trade deadline: Teddy Purcell, Justin Schultz, Mark Fayne, Eric Gryba, Lauri Korpikoski and Matt Hendricks.
- Areas where the Oilers need help: an effective right handed defenseman, a No. 3 center, and scoring wingers.
On the Edmonton Oilers and New York Islanders …
- Jason Gregor: Craig Button: “Tavares is an exceptional thinker, and he needs someone who thinks the game the same. Eberle has that ability.”
On the Toronto Maple Leafs …
- Jeff Blair of Sportsnet: The Maple Leafs may now be thinking that James Reimer should be apart of their long-term future. He should be open to the possibility of re-signing with the Leafs. It is possible that the Maple Leafs could trade Reimer before the deadline and then try to re-sign him in the offseason.
On the Toronto Maple Leafs and Montreal Canadiens …
- Eklund of Hockey Buzz: The Maple Leafs want to re-sign James Reimer, but they could move him if they get a good return, especially if the team acquiring him doesn’t need a goalie next year – the Montreal Canadiens. Some think Carey Price is a few weeks away from returning, but others think it could be longer. Have been told the Leafs like Mike Condon.
