- Mike Chambers of the Denver Post: The Colorado Avalanche have traded Freddie Hamilton to the Calgary Flames for a 2016 7th round pick. The Avs are now at 47 contracts, with Jack Skille and Curtis Glencross on PTOs. The Avs have 26 players still in camp. Jesse Winchester is headed for the IR. There is a good chance they sign Skille and 2015 1st round pick Mikko Rantanen could make the team.
- Sarah McLellan of the Arizona Republic: The Coyotes assigned Dylan Strome to junior. Anthony Duclair, Max Domi and Jordan Martinook made the team.
“The first part of the equation is over, but the hard part is still to come,” coach Dave Tippett said. “We’ll continue to push them along, and hopefully they can help us win.”
Shane Doan and Zbynek Michalek both have minor injuries, but are expected to be at practice tomorrow.
- Joe Haggerty of CSNNE: The Bruins have signed Jonas Gustavsson to a one-year, $700,000 contract after he won the backup role. Gustavsson and Jeremy Smith were pretty even, but Gustavsson brings more experience. The Bruins now have three goalies in the minors – Smith, Malcolm Subban, and Zach McIntyre. McIntrye could find himself starting in the ECHL.
- Ansar Khan of MLive: The Red Wings have decisions to make on if Dylan Larkin will make the team and who will fill in for injured Danny DeKeyser.
“We got to get to practice (Monday) and see who’s healthy,” general manager Ken Holland said. “Once I get that information then I’ll talk to (coach) Jeff Blashill and based on the people we think are going to be healthy we’ll look at possible scenarios.”
The Wings waived Brian Lashoff, Andy Miele and Mitch Callahan. Darren Helm and Alexey Marchenko were put in the IR. Helm has been out with separated shoulder and concussion and has only skated a few times. The Wings need to cut one more forward, and Larkin doesn’t have to clear waivers.
“You look at a player like Dylan in two different situations – one, does he help our team, does he make our team better,” Blashill said. “And then two, what’s best for his development? Certainly where he would fit into the lineup would play into that decision. I don’t want to specifically say it would have to be a top-three line but that’s definitely part of the conversation Ken Holland and I will have.”
- Chuck Gormley of CSN Mid Atlantic: The Capitals assigned Chandler Stephenson to the AHL. Derek Roy is still in camp on a PTO. Brooks Laich appears to be on the bubble, but he makes $9 million over the next two years. The Capitals could put Laich on waivers, but he would likely clear.
