Morning Hits: Buyouts, Trading Draft Picks, Injuries and Callahan’s Clauses

  • Dan Rosen: The Lightning use a compliance buyout on Ryan Malone. The move clears $4.5 million off their cap.
  • Jeremy Rutherford of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch: Blues GM Doug Armstrong is looking for an offensive forward before or after the draft. The Blues could be willing to trade their first round pick for an established player. If they keep the pick, they’ll take the best players available.
  • Dave Isaac: The Flyers have been talking with teams about potential draft trades. GM Ron Hextall said there is a dropoff after No. 10.
  • Sam Carchidi: Flyers GM Ron Hextall gave high marks to draft prospects Sonny Milano, Dylan Larkin and Alex Tuch, who may be available at their current No. 17 draft slot.
  • Joe Haggerty: Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli said he’s open to moving up or down from their No. 25 draft slot.
  • Dan Rosen: Lightning’s Ben Bishop said that his elbow rehab is going well and he expects to be 100 percent by the training camp.
  • Lisa Dillman: Kings Jonathan Quick had wrist surgery and will be out for 10 to 12 weeks.
  • Pat Leonard: The first four-years of Ryan Callahan’s deal contains a full no-trade clause. The last two-years he has a partial no-trade clause.
