Morning Hits: Devils, Bruins, Blues, Leafs, and Seguin
  • Tom Gulitti of The Record: It is still not known if Devils winger Ryane Clowe will play this season or ever again. A decision on Bryce Salvador’s future is expected to be announced later this week, with it likely being retirement.

“We’ll probably have some news later in the week on Bryce and we’ll kind of see what direction he is going,” Devils GM Ray Shero said today. “I don’t anticipate this will be a situation that’s ongoing for a lot longer one way or the other. I anticipate that relatively soon there will be some sort of information.”

Devils GM Ray Shero on if they’ll have any players in camp on a PTO.

“Sometimes these things happen the day before,” he said. “I’ve been in touch with different agents and players, as every other team has been, and we’ll just see. But there are no tryout invitations out at this point at all.”

  • Matt Kalman of NHL.com: Bruins Brad Marchand had offseason surgery to repair torn tendons in his right elbow. He expects to be ready for the start of training camp. He had been dealing with the issue before the start of 2014 postseason.

“There were days where I couldn’t even hold my stick,” Marchand said. “It was always tough to shoot. There’d be times throughout the year where it was good. But when it was bad it was tough to even … like I wasn’t shooting in practice and stuff like that. So it definitely affected my game a bit. So it was good to get it done.”

  • Jeremy Rutherford: The Blues will bring Scottie Upshall to training camp on a tryout.
  • Renaud Lavoie: Maxim Lapierre signed a one year deal with an option for another year with Modo.
  • Rick Westhead: MLSE’s search for a new CEO to replace Tim Leiweke is still foundering. Some people close to the company think that Leiweke will remain until at least next summer.
  • Richard Peddie: (former MLSE CEO) “Tyler Seguin now behaving himself? Yorkville neighbours sure don’t think so. Lots of loud noisy parties to 6am Lots of garbage left behind”
