A five-year contract extension for Dan Vladar is almost done
Kevin Weekes: Sources have said that the Philadelphia Flyers and goaltender Dan Vladar are working on a five-year contract extension that could have a salary cap hit around $5.5 million.
Pierre LeBrun: “Still a bit of work to be done on the extension, but once done it can’t be officially signed and announced until July 1 because Vladar has another year on his deal. Told once done, it will be in the 5-6 year range and as @KevinWeekes says, salary/cap hit in the 5’s”
The Tampa Bay Lightning’s open offer to Darren Raddysh may have been under $6 million
Dave McCarthy: Believe that the Tampa Bay Lightning’s first offer to pending UFA defenseman Darren Raddysh a few weeks ago was for five years at $5.75 million.
NHL Rumors: Raddysh, Sharks, Panthers, Larkin, Stars and Mammoth
Potential buyout candidates
Matt Larkin of Daily Faceoff: The NHL buyout period will open in less than 48 hours. Some potential buyout candidates.
J.T. Compher – C – Detroit Red Wings – $5,100,000 for two more years
Buyout: $1,966,667 – $1,966,667 – $1,566,667 – $1,566,667
Brendan Gallagher – RW – Montreal Canadiens – $6,500,000 for one more year
Buyout: $3,833,333 / $1,333,333
Gallagher knows his days in Montreal are over. Will the Canadiens find a trade partner? Will they need to retain salary, attach an asset or buyout?
Ryan Graves – D – Pittsburgh Penguins – $4,500,000 for three more years
Buyout: $3,305,556 – $3,305,556 – $3,555,556 – $555,556 – $555,556 – $555,556
The Penguins have lots of cap space, so they don’t have to buy him out for cap reasons. Least likely of the five.
Jesperi Kotkaniemi – C – Carolina Hurricanes – $4,820,000 for four more seasons
Buy out: $850,833 – $470,833 – $470,833 – $470,833 – $850,833 – $850,833 – $850,833 – $850,833
He’s still only 25, so the buyout would cost them little. The Hurricanes have lots of picks and prospects so they could look to move him with an asset attached.
Toronto Maple Leafs Coaching Notes, and Buffalo 2.0 in Detroit
Morgan Rielly – D – Toronto Maple Leafs – $7,500,000 for four more seasons
Buy out: $3,500,000 – $3,500,000 – $3,500,000 – $3,500,000 – $2,000,000 – $2,000,000 – $2,000,000 – $2,000,000
He’s got a no-movement clause, so he may not be an easy trade. Doesn’t have a lot of trade value as his production doesn’t meet the contract. An eight-year payout is a lot.
