Eric Stephens: Ducks GM Bob Murray said they have started contract talks with goaltender John Gibson and forwards Adam Henrique and Jakob Silfverberg. They are set to become free agents after next season. Murray has exchanged numbers with the agents for pending RFAs Brandon Montour, Nick Ritchie and Ondrej Kase.
On the Boston Bruins …
Joe Haggerty: Bruins GM Don Sweeney is not as optimitic about them re-signing their own pending free agents ahead of the start of free agency on July 1st: “Seems to be inching rather than moving in the direction I’d like it to. Doesnt mean we’ve closed the door on any of it, but as it gets closer we have to think, and prepare, otherwise”
Jimmy Murphy: Have been told that the Bruins have shown interest in pending free agent winger James van Riemsdyk.
On the Colorado Avalanche …
Adrian Dater: A contract extension between the Avalanche and newly acquired goaltender Philipp Grubauer is tentatively done. Expect it to be in the three-year range at around $3 million per season.
Chris Johnston: The trading for Grubauer likely ends Jonathan Bernier‘s time with the Avalanche. The pending free agent had interest in remaining with the team.
Chris Johnston: There is the chance that the Avs could look to trade goaltender Semyon Varlamov. Bernier should get some interest on the free agent market.
Frank Seravallie: Avalanche GM Joe Sakic confirms that they will either trade Brooks Orpik or they will buy him out. Sakic: “I told him I owed him the respect to let him know that the plan is to buy him out and let him be a free agent. I’m sure he’ll have a lot of teams that’ll want to add him to their group.”
On the Washington Capitals …
Stephen Whyno: Capitals GM Brian MacLellan said they are open to bringing defenseman Brook Orpik back if the Avalanche buy him out and if the cost to sign him is right.
Isabelle Khurshudyan: The Capitals are trying to re-sign pending UFA defenseman Michal Kempny.
