On the Edmonton Oilers …

Jim Matheson: There was no update on defenseman Andrej Sekera after the game. He took a shot of his hand/wrist late in the game.

On the Calgary Flames …

Pat Steinberg: Forward Micheal Ferland said he’s ready to go tonight after tweaking his knee last week.

On the Los Angeles Kings …

Elliott Teaford of the OC Register: Center Anze Kopitar missed yesterday’s game with an unspecified illness.

“He was sick (Sunday) and it was a decision made (Monday) morning,” Sutter said.

When asked if Kopitar made it to the arena for the game, coach Darryl Sutter responded with.

“Oh, jeez, here’s what I’m going to do, a ‘Kopi’ diary?” Sutter asked, referring to the reigning Selke Trophy winner as the NHL’s top defensive-minded forward by his nickname. “Is he in the building or did he stay home? God, maybe he’s stuck in traffic.”

Sutter didn’t say when Kopitar could return.

On the San Jose Sharks …

Curtis Pashelka of the San Jose Mercury News: Forward Tomas Hertl has been out for the past two months with a sprained right knee. He skated on Sunday and is hopeful to participate in full practices with contact soon.

“Every day its better and stronger. Now it’s almost full practices. Next week hopefully, full practices with contact,” Hertl said. “We’ll see next week if I can start more pushing, more battles. It’s mostly coming back pretty fast now.

“I feel pretty good. I don’t want to skate anymore. I’m over it. I want to just play. It’s more fun than just skating (alone) on the ice and with no pucks and no goalie on the ice.”

Joonas Donskoi has also started skating and is out day-to-day with an upper-body injury.

“I don’t want to come back too early and hurt it again,” Donskoi said.
