Ottawa Senators forward Clarke MacArthur isn't giving up on returning to the NHL

On the Ottawa Senators …

Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Citizen: Forward Clarke MacArthur is not giving up on the idea of playing in the NHL again. He’s had four concussions over an 18 month period and was not able to get clearance in January to return from the concussion he got during training camp.

He said in an interview yesterday that he tried to step away from the game, but can’t just yet. From the Senators stand point, he won’t return this year.

“I have the love the game and want to keep playing,” MacArthur said. “The scary part is, ‘Did you do everything you could to try and get back?’ If you did and you still can’t get back, then I can live with that or I’ll have a chance to live with that. But, if I leave a stone unturned or don’t check every avenue or do everything I can, then it’ll be hard to live with for me. I know that. That’s why I’m back here and that’s why I’m doing this. I know I have a hole me in that I just need to fill.”

On the Boston Bruins …

Cam Tucker of the Boston Herald: Forward Ryan Spooner has been out since last Monday with a concussion. He practiced over the weekend and coach Bruce Cassidy said he could play tonight. Cassidy added that returning on Wednesday is also an option.

“When he’s healthy, he won’t lose his spot because of injury — unless something really changes quickly here,” Cassidy said. “But that’s the plan.”

Forward Tim Schaller isn’t traveling with the team and won’t play in their next two games.

On the Tampa Bay Lightning …

Joe Smith: Coach Jon Cooper wouldn’t say if any of their three injured centers would return on the trip.

On the Minnesota Wild …

Michael Russo of the Star Tribune: Forward Martin Hanzal is heading back to Minnesota because of an illness. He missed last night’s game and his status for tomorrow’s game seems unlikely.

On the Anaheim Ducks …

Curtis Zupka: Goaltender John Gibson has a lower-body injury and it’s different from his previous one.

On the Nashville Predators …

Adam Vingan: Recalled forward Miikka Salomaki from his long-term AHL injury loan.

On the San Jose Sharks …

Kevin Kurz of CSN Bay Area: Defenseman David Schlemko skated yesterday for the first time since suffering a lower-body just over 10 days ago. There is no timetable on his return. Schlemko has missed the past five games. Coach Peter DeBoer on the injury.

“Probably a little longer than I thought, but I wouldn’t call it serious.”
