On the Carolina Hurricanes …

Chip Alexander: Hurricanes GM Ron Francis said that center Jordan Staal suffered a concussion during the Panthers game. Francis added there is not time frame on when he could return.

Chip Alexander: The Hurricanes put Staal in the IR and recalled Phil Di Giuseppe.

On the Buffalo Sabres …

Buffalo Sabres: Coach Dan Bylsma said it’s possible that Jack Eichel plays tonight.

On the Boston Bruins …

Sam Carchidi: Defenseman Zdeno Chara and John-Michael Liles are both out against the Flyers.

On the Detroit Red Wings …

Ansar Khan: The Red Wings think that Tyler Bertuzzi will be out for three to five weeks. Bertuzzi said that he didn’t break any bones.

Helene St. James: Defenseman Brendan Smith will be out for about four weeks with a right MCL sprain.

Ansar Khan: Tomas Jurco will make his season debut tonight.

On the Washington Capitals …

Tarik El-Bashir: Coach Barry Trotz said that T.J. Oshie is progressing well but won’t be in the lineup this week.

Isabelle Khurshudyan: Matt Niskanen is expected to skate tomorrow.

On the Tampa Bay Lightning …

Joe Smith: J.T. Brown is still day-to-day with an upper-body injury.

On the New York Islanders …

Shannon Hogan: Defenseman Adam Pelech left last night’s game with an upper-body injury.

On the New Jersey Devils …

NHL.com: Winger Taylor Hall practiced with teammates for the first time since having surgery on his left knee 12 days ago. Hall was expected to miss three to four weeks. He was skating after nine days and practicing after 12.

“He was out there skating and participated in most of it,” Hynes told NJ Advance Media. “That’s really the stage where he’s at, to come back in and get around the team, get some contact here probably and see where he goes the rest of the week.”
