Chris Stevenson: Forward Mark Stone on the possibility of playing tomorrow: “I’m gunning for it. I want to be in that game.”
On the Toronto Maple Leafs …
Kevin McGran of the Toronto Star: Maple Leafs Eric Fehr stayed in hospital overnight on Wednesday to have treatment on his broken left hand. He flew back to Toronto yesterday. Nikita Soshnikov missed his second straight game last night.
“He’s all right,” Leafs coach Mike Babcock said of Soshnikov. “He’s not as good as he normally is. I don’t know if he could be available today, we didn’t ask him though. We’ll just wait another day and go from there.”
Mark Masters: Coach Mike Babcock said that Fehr had surgery on his hand and there is no timetable on his return. Babcock said it could be weeks.
On the Columbus Blue Jackets …
Stephen Whyno: Forward Oliver Bjorkstrand didn’t travel with the team yesterday and wasn’t in the lineup last night after being boarded by Roman Polak.
On the Tampa Bay Lightning …
Joe Smith: Coach Jon Cooper didn’t have much of an update on defenseman Jason Garrison. He couldn’t put any weight on it and will be evaluated today: “Didn’t look good.”
Joe Smith of the Tampa Bay Times: Steven Stamkos is doing all he can to return to the lineup this season. He said again that he won’t return unless it feels 100 percent, and he’s not sure if it will happen by the end of the regular season.
“The knee is a tricky situation,” Stamkos said. “It’s something I’ve never had to deal with before. It’s all new to me. There’s a lot of movements that a knee is a big part of when you’re skating. A lot of things you have to teach yourself over again when you’re out as long as I was. I hope I’m on the right path. But time is kind of running out. I hope there’s enough time I can help out or we can get back in the mix and get in the playoffs and hope to be ready then. I’ll continue to take it day by day.”
On the Pittsburgh Penguins …
Pens Inside Scoop: Coach Mike Sullivan said that Bryan Rust is “getting close” to returning to the lineup.
On the New York Islanders …
Arthur Staple: Forward Ryan Strome has a broken wrist and likely done for the season unless they make a deep playoff run.
On the Detroit Red Wings …
Ansar Khan: Coach Jeff Blashill said that Gustav Nyquist was given a maintenance day yesterday and will be in the lineup tonight. Darren Helm is a possibility, but is unlikely.
